How to use your DJI Drone with a Tablet
It can often be tricky to capture the perfect shot with your drone on the small screen of your smartphone. By using a larger tablet instead, you can view all the fine detail your drone sees and capture the perfect shot. Check out this handy guide on how to get the most out of your drone with a tablet.
Why fly with a Tablet?
DJI remote controllers are designed for optimal on-the-go performance and are designed to integrate with your smartphone for quick and convenient flying. However, smartphones are limited in size and brightness and do not allow you to fully experience all the fine details captured by your DJI drone’s camera.
Luckily, the DJI Fly app supports larger, higher resolution tablet displays, allowing you to connect your RC-N1 (Mini 2, Air 2, Air 2S) controller to a compatible tablet. By flying with a tablet, you get to experience the full ability of your drone’s camera through greater screen real estate and brightness. You can perfect your shot with a tablet by capturing all the details.
How do I fly with a tablet?
Whilst the RC-N1 controller is designed for smartphones, table mounting can be easily achieved by using a pad holder. Most pad holder designs share a few common features; an anchor that sits in place of a smartphone, a tablet holding clamp and an articulating head for changeable viewing angles.
Installation is easy with a pad holder, simply insert the smartphone-sized anchor into the standard smartphone slot and secure your tablet into the holding clamp with its cable port facing left. From here, it's as simple as connecting your tablet to the remote controller with the appropriate cable.
It should be noted that the default out-of-the-box cable is incompatible with most tablets, given the added height of a tablet. We recommended using a longer cable to avoid any stretching or damage to your standard cable. These cables are available here.
What Pad Holders are available?
PGYTech Mavic Pad Holder
There are a variety of great pad holders available on the market, but our favourite has to be the PGYTech Mavic Pad Holder which is compatible with the newer RC-N1 controller and older Mini, Air and Mavic 2 series controllers.
