With the recent DJI Smart Controller Update; v01.00.0820, the DJI Smart Controller is now officially supporting the Mavic Air 2 and the DJI Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo. This has been the long awaited update since the release of the Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo.
What is the DJI Smart Controller?
The DJI Smart Controller is DJI's all in one solution that combines both a tablet and remote controller in one easy to use device. The Smart Controller is designed to maximise your outdoor flying experience with the Mavic 2 or other aircraft equipped with OcuSync 2.0. There is a 5.5 inch built-in screen displays clear, bright images even in the most challenging conditions with its 1000 nit sustained brightness. To put this in perspective, this is roughly 2 times brighter than a conventional smart phone.
The DJI Smart Controller is equipped with OcuSync 2.0, which is DJI's Full-HD video transmission technology, the DJI Smart Controller supports automatic switching between 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, reducing the influence of environmental interreference on drone operation and image quality. This ensures reliable long-term transmission at distances of up to 10km (FCC mode).
With detachable joysticks, the DJI Smart Controller is convenient, efficient and portable. It will connect to your drone as soon as it is turned on so you can take off faster and never miss out on an important moment!
The DJI Smart Controller is more reliable in harsher environments with an operating temperature range of -20 to 40 degrees Celsius, meaning you can take it to places where your phone and standard remote controller can not.
Furthermore, the battery life on the DJI Smart Controller is around 2.5 hours, making it very reliable for work and enables quick charging.
Is the DJI Smart Controller recommended?
The DJI Smart Controller is a highly recommended accessory by the DJI drone community.
No longer will you be interrupted by phone calls or notifications, you can fly in peace and enjoy an uninterrupted flight.
When comparing the load times of setting up the standard remote and the DJI Smart Controller, we find the Smart controller being faster than the standard remote by up to 1 minute depending on the smart phone used.
In hot and cold conditions, the DJI Smart Controller outperforms the standard remote and device where when its too cold, the battery will be depleted extremely quickly on the remote and the smart phone device.
Another advantage of the Smart Controller is how the controller does not drain/charge anything when in use. The standard remote unfortunately is known to drain/charge up android devices, which significantly impacts the battery life of the remote controller.
